Ms. Gina Fletcher, DipAVN (Medical), RVN, PgDip VetEd, is Head Medicine Nurse and Teaching Fellow in Medical Nursing at the Queen Mother Hospital for Animals, Royal Veterinary College (RVC), University of London, one of the world's leading veterinary teaching hospitals. She is widely recognized for her expertise in small animal internal medicine nursing, veterinary education, infection control, and clinical leadership.
Ms. Fletcher qualified as a veterinary nurse in Northern Ireland in 2008 before completing the Diploma in Advanced Veterinary Nursing (Medical Nursing) at Myerscough College in 2010. She joined the Royal Veterinary College's Queen Mother Hospital for Animals in 2011 as Senior Medicine Nurse, where she discovered her passion for clinical teaching, mentorship, and advancing veterinary nursing practice.
In recognition of her clinical research, Ms. Fletcher received the prestigious BSAVA Veterinary Nurse Abstract Award in 2015 for her work investigating complications associated with intravenous catheter placement. She was appointed Head Medicine Nurse in 2016 and currently leads a team of 24 specialist medicine nurses, supporting one of the United Kingdom's busiest referral internal medicine services.
Committed to excellence in veterinary education, Ms. Fletcher completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Veterinary Education in 2019, followed by a Postgraduate Diploma in Veterinary Education in 2022. She is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Veterinary Education, further strengthening her expertise in teaching, curriculum development, and professional learning. As a Teaching Fellow in Medical Nursing at the Royal Veterinary College, she plays a key role in educating and mentoring veterinary and veterinary nursing students while supporting the continuing professional development of practicing veterinary nurses.
Ms. Fletcher has particular interests in internal medicine nursing, endocrine disorders, infection prevention and control, clinical nursing standards, and evidence-based nursing practice. A respected lecturer and educator, she regularly delivers presentations and practical training sessions at national and international veterinary meetings, sharing her extensive clinical experience and passion for advancing veterinary nursing. Through her leadership, education, and commitment to clinical excellence, Ms. Fletcher continues to make a significant contribution to veterinary nursing, helping to shape the future of the profession and inspiring the next generation of veterinary nurses.
