Prof. Anette Loeffler, Dr. med. vet., PhD, DipECVD, DVD, FHEA, MRCVS, is Professor of Veterinary Dermatology and Cutaneous Bacteriology at the Royal Veterinary College (RVC), University of London, one of the world's leading veterinary schools. She provides specialist clinical care at the Queen Mother Hospital for Animals (QMHA) while combining clinical practice with internationally recognized research and veterinary education
Prof. Loeffler graduated from the University of Munich in 1994 and spent five years in mixed veterinary practice in the United Kingdom before joining the Royal Veterinary College in 2001 to undertake a residency in Veterinary Dermatology. She subsequently completed a PhD investigating methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in companion animals, establishing herself as an internationally recognized authority on antimicrobial resistance and bacterial skin infections.
A Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Dermatology (DipECVD) and holder of the RCVS Diploma in Veterinary Dermatology (DVD), Prof. Loeffler is widely recognized for her expertise in small animal dermatology, cutaneous bacteriology, antimicrobial resistance, host–pathogen interactions, and skin infections. Her research has significantly advanced the understanding of bacterial dermatological diseases and responsible antimicrobial use in companion animal medicine.
As Professor at the Royal Veterinary College, she leads an active research programme, supervises postgraduate students and residents, and teaches undergraduate and postgraduate veterinary students. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed scientific publications and book chapters and is a highly sought-after invited speaker at national and international veterinary congresses.
Prof. Loeffler is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), reflecting her excellence and leadership in veterinary education, and a Member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (MRCVS). Her work continues to influence clinical dermatology, antimicrobial stewardship, and veterinary education worldwide through the integration of outstanding clinical care, research innovation, and teaching excellence.
